The story of a man who lives his dreams.

I have the rare privilage to work with Delmar on a daily basis on aircraft. I have as well been blessed to fly with him on several occasions. He is as calm and cool in the cockpit as he is in the book. He has a video version of the book as well, and both complement each other so well that one will want to read the book, and see the video.

As for the book, it is an easy read, it is a story of a dream that anyone who has ever flown or wanted to fly will identify with. It's a romantic story of a by gone era when flying was the cutting edge of science, and the world made hero's of individuals with names like Lindburg, Doolittle, and Amelia Earheart. Delmar as a man has earned his niche in aviation history and folklore by not only dreaming about the golden era of aviation racing; he has built his dream and lived it. This is the type of man he is. The book inspired me to live my dreams too, and with his encouragement I will soon do that. Thank you Delmar, for being my friend, and for sharing your dreams with the world at large.

This is a book well worth reading, and for having. I keep mine on the living room coffee table for all to see. How I would love to be talented enough to fly the beast .....

Robin Scagell is a long-serving vice president of Britain's Society for Popular Astronomy. A lifelong stargazer, he has worked as an observer and photographer, and as a journalist has edited a wide range of popular-interest magazines. Robin is the author of several popular astronomy books, and has contributed to many other publications. He often appears on television, commenting on events in space and astronomy, and runs an astronomical picture agency.

In London's Regents Park, a throng of people gather each month after dark for a star party. They call themselves the Baker Street Irregular Astronomers, after the fictional Sherlock Holmes' gang of local informants, the Baker Street Irregulars. Despite observing in a most unpromising location, they manage to observe a wide range of objects, including deep-sky favorites such as galaxies, planetary nebulae and star clusters. While the views they get of such wonders aren't as good as those from dark-sky sites, they prove the point that city observing is not a waste of time.

But this book is not just about observing from the middle of a big city. More amateur astronomers than ever now have to face the problems of light pollution. You may live in the leafy outskirts of a pleasant small town yet still be unable to see the Milky Way. And even well away from the bright lights, light pollution is still evident. You can be in what seems to be a remote country site, with no habitation or artificial lighting visible for miles, but when you try to photograph the Milky Way, for example, the background rapidly turns brown from the lights of cities well beyond your immediate horizon. Even if the sky overhead is black, lower down you see the familiar skyglow.

Despite this, amateur astronomy is still as popular as ever, with new technology helping to overcome what the streetlights have robbed from us. And purely visual observers, armed with no more than a telescope, can still enjoy good views by choosing their moment and their targets. Writing for the first edition of this book in 1994, veteran US observer Leif Robinson recalled his first ever observation as a child using a small telescope propped on a staircase: the double star Albireo, with its contrasting yellow and blue hues. The good news is that this delight still awaits observers wherever they live, as do many more.

This book is as much for relative newcomers to astronomy as it is for those who have been observing for years. I have had to assume that you are familiar with the basics of observing, so if you don't know what an equatorial mount is, or whether first-magnitude stars are brighter than sixth-magnitude ones, then please look in a more general book. My own Firefly Stargazing with a Telescope covers this, and more.

In Chapter 4, I cover observations that you can carry out from light-polluted skies that have a practical use, but the fact is that the vast majority of amateur astronomers observe for fun, cherry-picking the objects that are around, rather than engage in programs of work. You don't have to be a dedicated observer in order to call yourself an amateur astronomer, but around 90 percent of all amateurs probably don't observe regularly or have a particular subject area that they are interested in. If this is you, don't worry -- you're in good company, me included.

Shines the light on an increasing problem

Anyone who does their observing from and urban area will benefit from reading this book. As light pollution continues to encroach upon all amateur astromomers, it is important that they learn how to cope with the problem. This book is a very good place to start.

The writing is clear, knowledgable, and friendly as all common areas concerning the problems of urban astronomy are addressed. The writer looks at different equipment, what is best suited for combatting light pollution and or what is easier to transport. He looks at different types of lighting and the problems it causes: if filters will help and if so what type. The book is nicely illustrated.

I could go on, but suffice it to say this is one of the few books that is dedicated to the problems involved with urban astronomy. The author covers almost every area.

The new Bible about Intraoperative monitoring

I have been involved in intraoperative monitoring for 20+ years and I have almost any textbook in the field including Dr. Nuwer's original work from 1986 and its second edition from 2000. This new volume is by far the best book published ever about IOM. It has almost 1000 pages devoted to the field. Each chapter is written by a well known authority. The first section covers basic science aspects to understand the generation of electro-physiologic signals and the anatomic structures involved. Then it follows a detailed description of ALL the techniques currently available. The last part covers the different types of surgical procedures where IOM may be needed. No matter which level in the field you are you will find new and useful information in this amazing book. Thanks to Dr. Nuwer, to the IFCN and to the series editors Dr. Daube and Dr. Mauguire for putting this wonderful amount of information altogether.

The answer is in the question.

I very much enjoyed this book. I really had not looked at all Jesus questions like this before except "who do you say that I am". There is a lot to think about when you dig deep into what he is really asking. For example one is about " do you see that woman". The author then tells of his own experience of really looking at people and seeing them for who they are, listening and remembering the names of new people we meet. Made me really think how often we are not seeing the other person but thinking about what we want to say next.

when Jesus asks questions he is not so much wanting a simple answer he wants us to take a journey and be transformed more and more to be like him. There are 183 questions and a list is given at the end of the book grouped by what thye of question it is like invitation, identity, purity of Heart..etc. here are a few that got my attention the most. "You faithless generation, how long will I be with you?" "How long will I put up with you?" "Do you want to get well? " Where is your faith? "Will you give up your life for me?" Just a few as you can see one can take a lot of soul searching.

This book will definitely help you dig deep into God's world and your heart searching for what you answers would honestly be. Sadly I didn't like all my imediate thoughts. I am thankfuul to you "Copie" for opening our eyes to ourselves so we can also see others more as Jesus does.

As a fairly conservative Catholic . . .

. . . I don't really read a whole lot from the Progressive Protestant end of the spectrum. Occasionally, though, everyone needs to read ouside their comfor zone, hence my desire to review this book.

I'm glad that I did. Rev. Copenhaver presents a challenging premise: What kind of questions did Jesus ask of others (including 21st century Christians) and what does that say about our relationship with Jesus?

By asking questions -- a teaching method used by Socrates -- and very common in rabbinic Judaism -- the person doing the answering is forced to confront his or her own thought processes, preconceptions, beliefs, etc. and in the process can learn a great deal.

Questions Jesus asked: Who do you say that I am? Whom do you seek? Why were you looking for me? and many, many more challenge the answerer to think.

This book challenged me to think.

I thought this could have been shorter though

I liked this book, but ultimately, I was disappointed with it. That's a strange combination, so I should probably explain.

The author, Pastor Martin B. Copenhaver, has made a conscious effort (or so it seems) to make this book completely accessible to anyone who wants to read it. It is chatty at times, is filled with anecdotes, and seems to require only one bit of knowledge: you should know who Jesus was. I love the idea of isolating the questions Jesus asked and the ones he answered, and there absolutely were points from which I could learn in this book. Ultimately, though, I found myself wading through too much that did not seem especially important. What substance there is in here (and there is a fair amount) is worth it, but I just wish the book had more focus on what I consider the important points.

I'll give one example to help people understand what I mean. There is an anecdote quoted for about a page about a rabbi who is not happy with his direction or purpose in life and goes for a contemplative walk. He accidentally wanders into a military area and is asked, "Who are you and what are you doing here?" The rabbi then asks the soldier whether he will ask that same question of the rabbi every day.

The point of this story, as the author points out, is the distinction between an open question and a closed question. That anecdote and the paragraph that follow make the point quite clearly. But the author spends about another two pages trying to make the distinction clear. Again, I'm not dismissing the importance of the point, just the length of the answer.
